Lyn, Ontario – Dive Ontario was able to interview Maddy McGowan from the Nepean Ottawa Diving Club.
Maddy is a Tier 1 diver who continues to look for new ways to improve and grow in her skills. She shares how practice makes perfect and that it’s okay not to get something right your first time.

Q: At what age did you begin to dive?
I was 8 years old when I started diving.
Q: Why did you start diving?
When I was in swim lessons I would always watch the divers and it looked like fun to spend time jumping off diving boards.
Q: What keeps you motivated?
There’s always a new dive to work towards and there is always something to improve on.
Q: Favourite dive?
5132D on 3m springboard
Q: What are some lessons you have learned since you began diving?
You may not always get something right the first time you try it.
Q: What is the best part of competing?
Trying to improve your score from the last time you competed and adding new dives to your list.
