Dive Ontario is excited to welcome Lia Doskoris to the team as our Summer Intern!

A proud product of the Windsor Diving Club, Lia spent eight years in the sport and recently took the next step in her diving journey by moving to the United States to begin her collegiate diving career—an achievement she considers her proudest moment as an athlete.

Lia’s favourite event was the 3-metre springboard, where she became known for her signature dive, the 5235D. Ironically, it was also the dive that gave her the most nightmares. Like many divers, she knows that the toughest challenges often become the most rewarding accomplishments.

When asked when she knew she was truly a diver, Lia joked, “When my biggest fear became smacking.” She also admitted to having a pre-meet superstition of laying out her entire competition outfit—including her suit and shammy—the night before every event.

One of Lia’s favourite memories from the sport comes from attending national qualifier meets, while some of the funniest moments involved hearing athletes’ names hilariously mispronounced during competitions. Her teammates would describe her as funny, determined, and direct, qualities that helped her succeed both on and off the pool deck.

Throughout her diving career, one lesson has stayed with her: “Progress is not visible right away. Keep showing up and you will see results.” That’s also the advice she offers young divers today: “Always be confident. Stop doubting yourself.”

This summer, Lia is eager to learn how sport organizations operate behind the scenes. Having experienced the impact of camps, competitions, and athlete programs firsthand, she’s excited to gain a deeper understanding of the planning and development that help create opportunities for divers across Ontario.

Lia is particularly interested in coaching, athlete development, high performance, event management, officiating, and marketing and communications, making her a great addition to the Dive Ontario team.

A few quick facts about Lia:

  • Favourite pool snack: Applesauce
  • Favourite post-practice meal: Any kind of pasta
  • Favourite Olympic diver: Sarah Bacon
  • Most-heard coaching cue: “Keep your head in.”
  • Walk-up song: Bad Bad Bad by Young Thug
  • Fun fact: She’s never eaten sushi!

Please join us in welcoming Lia to Dive Ontario for the summer. We’re excited to have her on board and look forward to the energy, perspective, and athlete experience she’ll bring to the team.
